Hi everyone and welcome back to my photoshoot tips blog. I am a portrait photographer with a focus in families and seniors! In this blog, I am going to talk about 3 important tips for the perfect senior photos.Senior photos are some of my favorite people to capture, because graduating from high school or college is a big deal! It took a lot of time and dedication to complete your education. So why are senior photos important? Because this is a time in your life where you get the be the star. Everyone in your life wants to celebrate your accomplishment! Plus, pics or it never happened.Tip #1
Photos should show the most authentic you, so wear clothes that feel like you. Some people liked to get dressed up and go all out, while others like to be more laid-back and casual. Both styles are perfectly acceptable as long as you are wearing what you want to. If you have a favorite pair of heels, by all means bring them to the shoot! Or, if you prefer jeans and cowboy boots, wear those! Your senior photos are meant to be a reflection of who you are, not of someone you are pretending to be.
Tip #2
The next tip is location, location, location. Again, your senior photos are supposed to bring out your personality, so choose a place you are familiar with. If you love hiking, choose a trail on the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you're more of a city person, Downtown Asheville is the perfect cityscape. Think outside of the box. If you love fall, choose to take pictures during peak leaf season. Or, if you love the holidays, choose a place decorated for Christmas. A location you enjoy will help you get loose and be more natural during your shoot.
For this pose, Heather showed me a photo she liked on Pinterest. We then recreated that photo in their style.

My last tip for perfect senior photos is to bring your cap and gown. If you don't have it yet, schedule a separate session dedicated to it. How is any body going to know you're graduating if you don't have the classic cap and gown photo. There are lots of cool shots we can do with you cap and gown. One of my personal faves, is the cap toss. Most people don't toss their cap at graduation, so take a picture instead. Alongside the cap and gown, bring props that represent you. If you were a cheerleader in school, bring your pom poms. Props add movement to shoots and they are always so fun to include in your gallery!
